Tunnels via Boolean
From Reborn
The method in this tutorial for making tunnels is not the method that is used in the map Burrow, however it is still effective, so I will explain it. This tutorial should probably be used by people who have some experience in g-max. If you are just learning to map I would suggest some of the basic tutorials on this wiki.

[edit] Getting everything Ready
- Install Reborn, make sure you’ve played it at least once!
- Download and install Gmax.
- Download the Gmax activation bypass and run the .reg file to apply it.
- Download and install the Renegade Public Tools (Yes this is required for a Reborn Map)
[edit] Preparing to Create a Tunnel via Boolean
1. To start of Open up RenX
2. First start off with a simple mesh. This is the main terrain of what you want to make a tunnel into. (I just made a box so it is easy to see)

3. Create an object that you want to be the tunnel. Edit that object and make it look how you want. Think of that object as what is going to be cut out of the main terrain. (I just made a simple cylinder)

4. Position your tunnel mesh where you want it on your map. Make sure that it sticks out from the main terrain.

[edit] Adding the Boolean tool to your tool bar
If you already have the Boolean tool on your tool bar, skip this section, if you don't, then read on.
1. Right click on an open space in the top tool bar and click customize.

2. This menu will pop up. Scroll down until you see the Boolean Tool. Click and drag it from the menu onto your tool bar.

3. After you get that onto your tool bar, close out of that menu.
[edit] Using Boolean tool to Create a Tunnel
1. Now select your main terrain, the one you want the tunnel cut into. Then select the Boolean tool.
2. Change it to "Copy" and then click "Pick Operand B." After you click "Pick Operand B," Click on the mesh you want to use as the tunnel (The mesh going through your main terrain).

3. Now move the tunnel mesh out of the way, and look at how the tunnel turned out!

[edit] Important Reminders
- This only seems to work when you cut into boxes! If you try doing this same method using a plane, you will not create a tunnel, you will only create a hole.
- If you want to make a tunnel in a plane, you will have to make a box outlining the tunnel you want to make, and a copy of that box that is slightly smaller. Use the small box and hollow out the larger box using Boolean, and then place the larger box over the hole in the plane.
[edit] What Now
This tutorial shows how to use this method to crate custom tunnels: Customizing Boolean Tunnels
This tutorial shows a different method for creating tunnels (used in the map Burrow) : Tunnels via extruding
