Basic Map Texturing
From Reborn
This tutorial should be enough to get a basic mod with a map up and running. The map will be textured but it will not include the Reborn buildings; this tutorial is just the basics of texturing objects! This is a remake of a tutorial originally made by Staude for Renegade mapping.

Getting everything installed
- Install Reborn, make sure you’ve played it at least once!
- Download and install Gmax.
- Download the Gmax activation bypass and run the .reg file to apply it.
- Download and install the Renegade Public Tools (Yes this is required for a Reborn Map)
- Download a pack of simple textures.
Creating a terrain model in RenX.
- What you do first is to start up renx.
- It should look something like this:

3. Then what you do is follow the picture below. Basically you go to the right, make sure that you are in the same menu as on the picture below then:
1. then press "plane"
2. where after you go to the perspective view left click and simply drags the courser until you think it looks right.
3. when you have done this you can set the specific sizes, and choose how many verticles you want the "plane" to have.

4. Next thing you do is to right click at the "plane" and click convert to editable mesh

4. Next you press on the fan modify
1. Click the half rainbow
2. click on the bottom called "vertex" (the three dots)
3. Then press thesign so that you are able to modify the plane.

NOTE: down in the corner you can choose different buttons to change the view with. The ones you need to know right now are the magnifying glass(1) which basically zooms in and out. the hand(2) which makes you able too move across the window as if it was a flat surface, the nuclear sign(3) which makes you able to rotate the view, and the one next to it(in the corner)(4) which makes you able to switch to one view instead of four and thereby getting a bigger window to maneuver in.

5. Modify the "plane" to the extent that you wish it to be, by pressing on the blue dots and moving them with the 3 arrows (red, green and blue)

6. When you are done with that, press M to bring up the material editor (note that if you try a few times and it doesn't appear you might have to reinstall the renegade tools, its an annoying bug.. but it happens.. all too often I'm afraid) it should look something like this:
7. Next choose a name (1).. it can be anything.. as you see i called it "karatekid" then choose surface type(2) (grass, concrete etc, I choose grass) and then press on pass 1 (3)

8. Here press "textures" (1) then mark the "stage 0 texture" (2) choose texture (use the pack you downloaded at the begging) (3) press display (4) and then press assign material to selection (5) after that you go up and press "modifiers," (6) UV coordinates(7) and UVW map(8)

9. You can choose how many times the texture is put on the map for optimal graphical pleasure.

10. After that just put some more objects on the same way as before until your happy with it.. this is how mine ended up looking like :

11. Note, the first few times you shouldn't do anything major, just fool around and try out the different tools :)
12. Next thing you have to do is to get the map ready for export. first click on the tool that looks like a hammer(1) then press W3D tools(2)

13. Then set up the collision setting the way you want(1) and finally go to file(2) and press export(3)

14. Pick a place to save (note that it has to be saved in a folder in the level edit folder, usually found at a location similar to this C:\Program Files\\RenEvo\Reborn\Editor\map tut\Levels) (note that the map has to be exported as w3d and that it has to be saved in the level folder like in the path shown before) when you press "save" you should get a screen like this, set it up the way I did on the picture below and then press ok.

15. When its done exporting you are done with RenX and can close it down if you wish.
Creating a Level With Your New Terrain
- Start up the Reborn Level Editor (NOT the one included with the Renegade tools) it should look something like this:

2. Now press on the plus next to terrain and go down and press add

3. In the menu that pops up, choose a name for it.. normally the same as the file name since it makes the chance of complications when in game smaller.

4. Then press settings then choose the file (note that this is the file we just exported) then press ok

5. After, it should appear in the side under terrain with the name you gave it,(1) press "make"(2) (note that if you haven't copied the textures to your mod folder they wont appear in the level editor.) note that you move the camera around in level editor by pressing on the video camera (3) and you test the map by pressing on the man (4)

6. Then set GDI and nod spawners(1) make sure that you have set the objects to "drop to ground (2) you move the objects around with the teapot which is positioned next to the video camera. note that you have to press make in order to make a soldier appear on the map. Note that you can set such settings as sky and fog in "edit" "background settings" although it isn't necessary to set in order to make the map work

7. When you're done with that its time to export. Go to file and save current level as (note that you usually should save the map with the same name as the file as it makes chances of bug smaller.) then go to file, export mod package, and save it under the file you want.. now all there is left is to play the map.
Running your Level in Reborn
- Run Reborn
- Select Lan.
- Host a game.
- In the multiplayer options screen, you need to make sure you select the following things:
1. 1 player (so you can test without the “Gameplay Pending” problem)
2. Disable the “dedicated server” option
3. On the map cycle screen, select your mod package and map
5. You should now be able to play on your map!
Good luck, have fun. And I hope this tutorial helped you out!
